Garden design - Contemporary Town Garden
The clients wanted a garden that would provide a fitting frame and backdrop to their soon to be renovated Grade II listed Georgian villa. They share a love of formal design and symmetry and wanted the garden space to link to and reflect their pared down and contemporary interior style. Plenty of space was required for outdoor dining and parties and as the level, half acre plot is overlooked on 3 sides, privacy was an important consideration. Designs for a swimming pool had been drawn up and the couple also wanted plenty of lawn for their children to play on. The plot was an empty stage - anything was possible!
Design triggers - strict geometry - verticals for screening and visual interest, horizontal lines to exaggerate perspective. Making boxes within boxes. The building: gable ends, deep soffits , scrolled corbels. Planting in neighbours gardens - birch, conifers - movement and stasis.
